Anger provides information to someone about how strongly we feel about a situation or can help us get what we want. Being angry can also feel good, and can build in intensity as we become convinced of the validity of our anger.
ACTION PLAN FOR ANGER
To become better at dealing with the emotion of anger, ask yourself these questions in relation to an important person you feel angry at.
- What is it I’m angry at this person about?
- How and when did this anger first become provoked?
- How have I expressed my anger to this person to date?
- What would I ideally like to accomplish in relation to this person?
- What are this person’s feelings towards me likely to be?
- How might I address this person to best accomplish my goal?
